Brazil PV market favors Chinese enterprises

Recently, PV companies in China are believed to have formally entered into a strategic cooperation with State Development Center of Mato Grosso do Brasil (hereinafter referred to as MA). According to the cooperation agreement, in the next three to five years, Zhengxin Optoelectronics will cooperate with the government of the state of Mazhou in the construction of solar power plants and production lines to develop the integrated photovoltaic solution in the mining industry in Mazhou. The total investment of the project will exceed 360 million U.S. dollars.

It is understood that this is the state's first large-scale photovoltaic power generation project, when completed, will effectively ease the local electricity shortage and promote the development of competitive industries. In the meantime, the company also plans to build component factories locally, which will further boost local employment.

Brazil lags behind in promoting photovoltaic power generation. According to local media, the current PV power generation in Brazil only accounts for 0.02% of the total generating capacity. It is estimated that this proportion will increase to 10% by 2030, and the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation will reach 25 GW. While China had more than 75 GW at the end of last year.

Despite its late start, Brazil still has unique advantages in this area. Most of Brazil's territory is located in the tropics and has a long sunshine duration and huge potential for solar power generation. As an important raw material of silicon, Brazil reserves are also very rich. In addition, Brazil attaches great importance to environmental protection, the relevant laws and regulations are very strict. Photovoltaic power generation as a clean energy, less impact on the environment, easy to promote. On the other hand, with the rapid development of global photovoltaic power generation in recent years, more new technologies and new materials have been put into use, the costs have been gradually reduced, and the conditions for the development of photovoltaic power generation in Brazil have also been set.

At present, the Brazilian government has gradually realized that the proportion of hydropower to the total generating capacity is too high, and the development of photovoltaic power generation is the only way to adjust the energy structure. In recent years, the Brazilian government gradually adopted low-interest loans, tax incentives and other incentives to attract photovoltaic industry investment. The Mazhou government will also give Chinese enterprises relevant preferential policies on land, taxation and financing.

Against this background, Chinese enterprises investing in the Brazilian photovoltaic power generation market has gradually become a trend. The two countries have complementary advantages in this area and their prospects are widely optimistic. Li Tie, head of BYD Brazil, told this reporter: "Chinese enterprises are already at the leading position in the field of solar energy manufacturing due to their advantages of high production efficiency, low cost and convenient logistics, while the photovoltaic project is in its infancy in Brazil and the local companies Lack of experience and money often rely on external forces, and Chinese companies are well served by the Brazilian market with a full range of services that are cost-effective. "

Prior to this, there have been successful cases of Chinese companies entering the Brazilian PV market. In December last year, Artes Solar and a foreign company partnered to set up a solar-module plant to build 80 million Brazilian reals (US $ 24 million) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The plant mainly supplies Artes' power station construction with a production capacity of 400 MW per year, making it one of the largest PV module manufacturers in Brazil. In the first half of this year, BYD Company's solar panel factory in Campinas completed and put into production. Subsequently, it signed a memorandum of understanding with Campinas State University to establish BYD's first overseas solar energy technology research center.

China PV enterprises to enter the Brazilian market, but also brought much-needed local employment opportunities. In Brazil, the PV industry is recognized as having strong job creation capacity, creating more than 20 jobs per megawatt of PV capacity. BYD Company set up this year's solar plant to solve the employment of more than 400 local people.

In an interview with this reporter, Rodrigo Savoy, chairman of the Brazilian Solar Energy Association, said: "In Brazil, the photovoltaic industry has a young and open market. The large-scale and high-tech enterprises in China have brought Brazil With rich experience and service, more Chinese enterprises are welcome to come to Brazil for cooperation, and Brazil can also act as a springboard to help Chinese enterprises to radiate to other countries in Latin America.
